ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Tio Business School is a private Dutch educational institution founded in 1969 in Hengelo by the business community to address the growing need for qualified professionals in the hospitality and tourism industry. Established by VVV-Director D.J.F. Wilmink, Tio aimed to provide practical, career-focused education during a period of rapid growth in Dutch tourism. In its early years, the school, alongside the AVR and AVV vocational schools, offered short, intensive programs that closely matched industry needs, making them highly popular with students and employers alike. When government subsidies for these institutions ended in the late 1980s, Tio continued operating as a private school, maintaining its emphasis on small-scale, intensive education. Today, Tio has campuses in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Utrecht, Hengelo, and Groningen, offering recognized daytime programs at the Bachelor, Associate Degree, Mbo, and Master levels across business management, finance, event management, hospitality, and tourism. The school has been accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation and consistently ranks highly in the Dutch Keuzegids HBO. In 2020, Tio became part of the Salta Group, expanding its offerings to include some Schoevers programs at its locations. With a strong focus on industry relevance, practical training, and personalized education, Tio prepares students for successful careers in business and hospitality, combining tradition with modern educational practices.
