COURSE CURRICULUM
The two-year Master of Science program in Physics, with specialisations in Classical and Quantum Information, combines theoretical coursework with hands-on experimental research, offering a balanced and comprehensive approach to modern physics. Approximately half of the program is dedicated to experimental research, while the other half focuses on theoretical courses, enabling students to develop both practical laboratory skills and a strong conceptual understanding of the field. The curriculum is structured to include mandatory courses (30 EC) that provide foundational knowledge, electives (30 EC) that allow students to tailor their studies to individual interests, and two extensive research projects (60 EC in total) that offer in-depth experience in experimental, computational, and theoretical investigations. At the start of the program, students create a personalised study plan in consultation with the Study Advisor in Physics, detailing courses and research projects for the two-year period. This approach ensures flexibility while maintaining a clear and structured path toward mastering the subject.Educational methods are diverse, designed to foster active learning and research skills. Students engage in lectures, working groups, presentations, individual papers, colloquia, laboratory work, and literature study. These methods help develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, scientific communication skills, and hands-on experience with advanced experimental and computational techniques. The Classical and Quantum Information specialisations focus on different but complementary areas. Classical Information emphasizes the analysis, processing, and transmission of information within conventional systems, while Quantum Information explores the principles and applications of quantum mechanics in computing, communication, and sensing technologies. This dual focus equips students with a strong foundation in modern information theory, computational methods, and cutting-edge quantum technologies, preparing them for research at the forefront of physics.Graduates are well-prepared for careers in academic research, high-tech industries, quantum computing, information technology, and related fields. The combination of rigorous theoretical training, practical research experience, and interdisciplinary skills provides a solid platform for continued study at the PhD level or entry into specialised scientific careers.
