COURSE CURRICULUM

In the Mathematics and Science Communication and Society specialisation at Leiden University, students follow a science communication program worth 40 to 60 EC, alongside a reduced mathematics curriculum. The mathematics component includes a 40 EC research project and 20 EC of courses aligned with the research topic. The science communication component combines coursework, internships, and a dedicated science communication research project, giving students hands-on experience in conveying complex mathematical concepts to a wider audience.Educational methods include lectures, colloquia, seminars, working groups, individual papers, presentations, research projects, and internships. Students receive personalised guidance from mathematics study advisors and work closely with a supervisor during their final research project, ensuring one-on-one support and feedback. This structure equips graduates with both advanced mathematical expertise and the skills to communicate scientific knowledge effectively to the public.
