COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics and Business Studies specialisation at Leiden University consists of 120 European Credit Transfer System (EC) points and is structured over two years. The first year focuses on the mathematics component, comprising 60 to 80 EC, including a 20 EC research project and 40 EC of courses aligned with the research project. The second year is dedicated to the Business Studies component, which includes management courses (15 EC), business research methods (5 EC), business electives (up to 20 EC), and a management internship (20 to 40 EC).Educational methods in the program are diverse and include lectures, seminars, case studies, computer assignments, group and individual work, literature study, presentations, research projects, and internships. Courses are taught in small groups to allow for personalised attention, and students receive one-on-one guidance during their internship from a dedicated mentor. Additionally, study advisors hold weekly consultation hours to provide further support and guidance. This combination of rigorous mathematical training and practical business experience equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary for managerial roles in research-intensive and technology-driven organisations.
