COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science and Science Communication and Society specialisation offers a distinctive combination of computer science training and communication-oriented coursework. Students who choose this track follow the Science Communication and Society (SCS) program worth 40–60 EC, which means the standard computer science component is reduced. Within the computer science part of the curriculum, students complete at least 30 EC of advanced coursework alongside a master’s research project worth 42 EC. The science communication element complements this with dedicated courses, an internship, and the preparation of a research proposal, providing students with both academic and practical experience in connecting science with society.The program is research-oriented and therefore requires a strong foundation in computer science before entry. Students are expected to demonstrate good programming skills in C++ and/or Python, solid knowledge of algorithms and data structures, and a basic understanding of artificial intelligence, data mining, or machine learning. Strong academic reading and writing skills, proficiency in LaTeX, and an excellent command of English are also essential. Moreover, the program values independence, a critical research attitude, and a genuine interest in engaging with the public about scientific advances. Students participate in colloquia, lectures, and seminars, while also producing individual research papers and presentations.
