COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Crisis and Security Management is a full-time, one-year program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary security challenges from both local and global perspectives. This unique Dutch program combines common courses with track-specific modules, emphasizing the development of both academic knowledge and practical vocational skills. Each specialisation consists of a coherent set of courses designed to equip students with specialised expertise, and students must select their preferred track upon application. Changing tracks during the program is not possible, as each specialisation is structured to provide a focused skill set and knowledge base.The program offers six specialisations: Governance of Crisis, Terrorism and Political Violence (formerly Governance of Radicalism, Extremism and Terrorism), Cybersecurity Governance, Intelligence and National Security, War and Peace Studies, and Violence, Interventions, and Policing (formerly Governance of Violence). Each track includes four modules specific to the specialisation alongside three common courses shared by all students. This structure ensures that graduates gain both specialised and general competencies, preparing them to become security professionals with an in-depth understanding of crisis and security issues.The MSc Crisis and Security Management is multidisciplinary in nature, integrating insights from Security Studies, Public Administration, Political Science, Law, International Relations, and other relevant fields. Students develop the analytical skills necessary to assess complex security challenges, design effective interventions, and propose academically-informed policy solutions. The program balances theoretical understanding with practical application, allowing students to engage with real-world security problems while developing critical thinking, research, and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in government agencies, international organisations, security consultancy, intelligence analysis, and research institutions, where they can apply their multidisciplinary knowledge to the evolving field of crisis and security management.
