COURSE CURRICULUM

The Methodology and Statistics specialisation in the Master’s program in Psychology at Leiden University offers a comprehensive curriculum covering essential aspects of research methods and statistical analysis. Students complete four mandatory courses designed to build a strong foundation in methodology and statistics.As part of the program, students undertake a 10-ECTS internship, gaining hands-on practical or research experience in an area of their choice within the specialisation. The internship allows students to engage with professional activities of psychologists, either by applying scientific insights in practical settings or by conducting applied or fundamental research. When a 10-ECTS internship is chosen, it is supplemented with two elective courses.The master’s thesis represents the culmination of the program, enabling students to explore a topic in depth and gain experience in all phases of empirical research. In some cases, students may work with existing large datasets provided by staff members, allowing them to complete their thesis without collecting new data. Staff members offer thesis topics aligned with their research interests, and students can select a project that matches their academic goals. This combination of coursework, practical experience, and independent research prepares students to become skilled scientist-practitioners in psychology.
