COURSE CURRICULUM
The Master of Arts in Literature and Culture provides an interdisciplinary and critical approach to contemporary literature, art, film, and popular culture. The program is structured around four fields of study, each offering distinct theoretical and analytical perspectives. The first field, Critical Theory and Literary Theory, explores literature and culture through diverse frameworks such as aesthetics, phenomenology, feminist and queer theory, ecocriticism, posthumanism, and decolonial studies. Students learn to critically analyse cultural objects and understand how theory shapes interpretations, fostering dialogue across disciplines. The second field, Interculturality, Diversity, and Inclusion, examines literature as a reflection of intercultural encounters and evolving identities in a globalized world. Students explore migrant, transnational, and postcolonial narratives, using approaches from gender studies, colonial and postcolonial theory, and globalisation. This track highlights how literature challenges traditional notions of national culture and contributes to discussions on identity and diversity. The third field, Literature, Politics, and the Law, investigates how cultural texts engage with pressing political and legal issues such as ecological crises, migration, and justice. Students analyse novels, plays, and films to understand how literature dramatizes dilemmas and offers critical perspectives on social and legal challenges. The program encourages reflection on the role of literature in shaping public discourse and influencing societal debates. The fourth field, Popular Culture and Critical Theory, focuses on pop music and other contemporary cultural forms. This track bridges theory and everyday practices, providing tools to analyse identity, creativity, collective experience, and media consumption. Students gain insight into how popular culture reflects and shapes social norms and collective imagination.Through seminars, workshops, research projects, and critical discussions, students develop strong analytical, research, and communication skills. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, cultural institutions, media, publishing, or public policy, as well as for doctoral studies, equipped to critically engage with the intersections of culture, society, and politics.
