COURSE CURRICULUM

The master’s program Cities, Migration and Global Interdependence is structured to combine theoretical knowledge, research training, and practical academic skills, culminating in an independent thesis. The program begins with a Literature Seminar (10 EC) that familiarises students with key theories, debates, and empirical studies related to cities, migration, and global interdependence. Complementing this, the Research Seminar (10 EC) develops students’ skills in critically analysing literature, formulating research questions, and engaging with scholarly debates.The Research Workshop (5 EC) provides hands-on experience in designing and conducting research projects, allowing students to apply methodological approaches to real-world questions related to social inequality, migration, and urban dynamics. Academic Skills and Thesis Seminar (5 EC) equips students with essential competencies for writing, structuring, and presenting an academic thesis, as well as preparing for oral examinations. Students may also take Optional Courses (10 EC) to explore specialised topics or gain interdisciplinary perspectives that align with their research interests.The program concludes with the Thesis and Exam (20 EC), where students conduct independent research under supervision, producing a substantial academic work that demonstrates their ability to integrate theoretical knowledge, methodological skills, and critical analysis. The thesis allows students to investigate issues such as intersectional inequality, urban development, migration policies, and global interconnections, drawing on both primary and secondary sources. This combination of seminars, workshops, optional courses, and a research thesis ensures that graduates acquire comprehensive knowledge, practical research experience, and advanced academic skills, preparing them for careers in research, policy-making, international organisations, and other fields focused on social inequality and global interdependence.
