COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers students a unique opportunity to benefit from the combined expertise and resources of three prestigious universities—Leiden, Delft, and Erasmus Rotterdam—while earning a fully recognized LL.M. degree from Leiden University’s renowned Faculty of Law. It provides a rich and multidisciplinary approach to the study of migration and diversity, combining legal, historical, sociological, political, and development perspectives. Beyond academic knowledge, the program emphasizes practical training through the privatissimum and practicum, where students work closely with faculty members to strengthen their skills in legal writing, drafting court memorials, and defending arguments orally. The experience is designed to prepare graduates for both academic and professional careers by fostering critical thinking, practical abilities, and confidence in handling complex legal and societal issues. Students also benefit from a vast academic and professional network, gaining access to the alumni community of Leiden University as well as the combined graduates of the Governance of Migration and Diversity (GMD) program at all three universities. The program is flexible in terms of structure, allowing students to complete their studies full-time in one year or part-time over a longer period, with classes scheduled during the daytime. While the official start date is in September, students may request to begin in February, offering further adaptability. For international students, it is recommended to confirm with local authorities whether the degree, in combination with their undergraduate qualifications, fulfills the requirements for legal practice in their home countries. In addition, the program actively supports participation in prestigious competitions such as the European Law Moot Court, where Leiden has built a tradition of success, winning multiple awards including Best Overall Team and Best Advocate General.
