COURSE CURRICULUM
The Arts, Media and Society bachelor’s program is structured to guide students from foundational knowledge to specialized study and independent research. In the first year, students gain a strong introduction to art history through courses such as Materials and Techniques in Art and Architecture, World Art Studies, and Cultural Representation and Signifying Practices, along with three courses that provide a chronological overview of art, architecture, and design in Europe and the United States. These courses are complemented by Visual Analysis, Academic Skills I and Academic Skills II, where students develop essential skills in researching, critically assessing information, academic writing, and oral presentation. By the end of the first year, students are well prepared to analyse and communicate about art and media with confidence. In the second year, the focus shifts to contemporary developments and the ways in which art and media interact with society. Students explore topics such as the growing role of digital platforms like Instagram in museum practices and how these media can transform the meaning of artworks. This year also allows students to tailor their studies to their interests by selecting two specialized seminars from a choice of four. Practical experience is integrated through fieldwork courses, such as Curating the City, which involves on-site assignments that connect theoretical learning with real-world cultural practices. The third year provides the greatest flexibility, enabling students to design their academic path. In the first semester, they have 30 credits of free space to study abroad, complete a minor, or undertake an internship that offers valuable professional experience. In the second semester, students deepen their understanding of the relationship between art, media, and society while working on their bachelor’s thesis. This capstone project allows them to apply their knowledge, conduct critical analysis, and present their findings effectively. The combination of academic training, fieldwork, and independent research prepares graduates for careers in the cultural and creative industries or for further academic study.
