COURSE CURRICULUM

The master’s specialisation in Strategy Economics is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to analyse and guide strategic firm behaviour in a dynamic economic environment. It is motivated by the understanding that economies are constantly evolving and that strategic actions—such as investments in innovation and foreign market entry—are central to achieving competitive advantage and promoting economic growth. The program combines rigorous economic theory with advanced empirical methods, enabling students to make informed strategic decisions and assess the impact of firm behaviour on broader economic outcomes.The program is structured across five blocks of eight weeks each. Blocks 1 and 2 focus on core courses and electives. In block 1, students study the fundamental paradigms of strategy economics through courses such as Economics of Strategy, Applied Micro-econometrics, and Economics of Innovation. These courses provide a solid foundation in economic theory and quantitative methods, teaching students to interpret empirical findings and offer strategic advice to firms. Block 2 builds on these skills with Advanced Empirical Methods and electives such as Firms in the Global Economy, Corporate Innovation and Venture Capital, and Economics of Negotiations, broadening students’ perspectives on global and corporate strategy.Blocks 3 and 4 are dedicated to intensive seminars. In Seminar Sustainable Firm Strategy, students analyse pricing, competitive, growth, and sustainability strategies. In Seminar in Global Firm Strategy, the focus shifts to global strategic decisions, including foreign direct investment, location choices, and responses to economic, technological, political, and competitive changes. Block 5 is fully devoted to the individually supervised master’s thesis.The curriculum emphasises quantitative methods, data analysis, and applied research, while also encouraging teamwork and group assignments. Overall, the program consists of 30% innovation strategy, 30% other strategic decisions of firms and entrepreneurs, and 40% quantitative methods and data analysis.
