COURSE CURRICULUM

The master’s program in Social Inequalities consists of 60 ECTS credits, with three core courses and a thesis accounting for 45 ECTS. These core components provide in-depth knowledge of social inequality, combining theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis. The remaining 15 ECTS are dedicated to a methods course and one elective, giving students the opportunity to strengthen research skills or explore a related topic within sociologyThe elective, offered in the second block, can also be chosen from courses in other sociology master specialisations, allowing flexibility to tailor the program to individual interests. This ensures students can pursue areas that complement their core studies, such as policy analysis, social justice, or quantitative methods.Teaching is designed to combine theoretical instruction with practical application. Core courses include a series of lectures that present essential concepts, research findings, and key debates in the study of social inequalities. These are complemented by small-scale tutorials, where students actively engage with the material. Tutorials focus on group discussions, collaborative analysis, and presentations of assignments, allowing students to critically examine concepts and apply them to empirical or policy-oriented problems.The program equips students with rigorous analytical and methodological skills, preparing them for careers in research, academia, governmental or non-governmental organisations, and other roles that address social inequality. By combining theory, methods, and practical engagement, students gain the competencies needed to understand the complexity of social inequalities and contribute to evidence-based policy and social interventions.
