COURSE CURRICULUM

The master track Politics & Society is a 60 ECTS program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and analytical skills in the study of political and societal dynamics. The program consists of three core courses and a master thesis, together accounting for 45 ECTS, while the remaining 15 ECTS are allocated to two electives. The electives offer flexibility, allowing students to select courses from other master specialisations in Sociology. However, these courses run only if sufficient enrollment is reached, ensuring meaningful interaction and engagement.Teaching at Erasmus University Rotterdam combines lectures with small-scale tutorials and interactive seminars. Lectures provide students with the main theoretical frameworks and empirical findings relevant to political and societal analysis. Tutorials and seminars focus on applying this knowledge through diverse learning activities, including in-class assignments, group discussions, presentations, and simulated debates. This approach ensures that students not only understand key concepts but also develop practical skills in analysis, communication, and critical thinking.The program’s structure encourages an active learning environment where students are challenged to explore the interplay between political processes and societal structures. By combining rigorous theoretical instruction with interactive exercises, the master track equips students to conduct independent research, evaluate policies, and engage with complex social phenomena.
