COURSE CURRICULUM
The Health Economics master’s program is structured into six blocks that provide students with both core knowledge and opportunities for specialization. In the first three blocks, students complete six compulsory courses that cover the essential foundations of the field, including health economics, applied econometrics, and health technology assessment (HTA). These courses are designed to equip students with analytical and practical skills for examining healthcare systems, evaluating interventions, and applying economic reasoning to health-related decisions. As the program progresses into blocks four and five, students have the flexibility to tailor their studies by selecting two electives from a range of seven options. These electives enable students to deepen their expertise in areas such as decision theory, advanced HTA, healthcare competition, pharmaceutical markets, and global health, depending on their individual academic and career interests. The final stage of the program, spanning blocks four to six, is devoted to the master’s thesis. Students conduct independent research on a topic of their choice under close academic supervision, ensuring they are supported throughout the process. The thesis component is highly structured, which helps maintain strong student engagement and contributes to a high completion rate. In addition to the thesis, students are regularly engaged in research assignments, presentations, and group discussions as part of their coursework, which further strengthens their analytical and communication skills. The full program carries a total of 60 credits, comprising 34 credits for compulsory courses, 10 for electives, and 16 for the thesis. Key courses include Applied Microeconometrics, Economics and Financing of Health Care Systems, Economics of Health and Health Care, Health Technology Assessment, Public Health Economics, and a Seminar in Health Economics. Together, these components ensure that graduates leave with both a broad foundation in health economics and the ability to specialize in areas of particular interest.
