COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Economics of Markets and Organisations offers a structured curriculum designed to combine theoretical understanding, empirical skills, and practical application. The program begins with foundational tool courses, Applied Econometrics and Game Theory, which provide the essential analytical framework for empirical and theoretical work. Game Theory trains students to distill complex situations to their core and offers insights into strategic interactions, while Applied Econometrics equips students with the ability to extract reliable information from large datasets and assess the credibility of empirical results.Following the foundation courses, students engage in core courses including Applied Econometrics, Industrial Organisation, and Economics of Organisations. Industrial Organisation explores how market structures influence firm behaviour, covering topics such as innovation, advertising, pricing strategies, product differentiation, bundling, and cartel formation, while examining the role of competition policy. Economics of Organisations focuses on the factors driving organisational performance, integrating insights from a variety of real-world cases to understand organisational dynamics and strategic decision-making.Field courses allow students to apply the concepts and skills learned in core courses to specific contexts. Courses such as Data Science and HR Analytics teach students to apply machine learning techniques to human resource management, while Inequalities and Discrimination in Labor Markets addresses the origins, consequences, and mitigation of workplace discrimination, evaluating both organisational and policy interventions.Seminars form a central part of the program, emphasizing active participation, case studies, and short research projects. Students conduct analyses, present findings, and engage in discussions based on recent academic research. The program concludes with an individually supervised master’s thesis, where students synthesize theoretical knowledge and empirical skills to address a research question of their choice.Overall, the curriculum is divided into 20% theoretical and empirical skill formation, 40% organisational studies, and 40% market studies, providing students with a balanced, comprehensive understanding of how organisations and markets operate and interact in modern economies.
