COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Accounting, Auditing and Control at Erasmus School of Economics combines a strong theoretical foundation with practical and analytical skills, offering students the opportunity to specialise in Accounting and Auditing, Accounting and Control, or Accounting and Finance. The curriculum is structured to provide 20% foundation knowledge, 20% deeper understanding of the discipline, and 60% focused on critical discussion and evaluation of accounting theory and practice. Across all specialisations, students begin with core courses such as Take-Off Master, Accounting Process Management, Introduction to Accounting Research, Corporate Reporting, and Seminar Financial Accounting Research, which provide essential insights into financial reporting, accounting processes, and research methodology. The program also integrates courses in Programming (AAC), Ethics and Sustainability, and Advanced Financial Statement Analysis to equip students with quantitative, technical, and ethical skills required for complex decision-making in accounting and finance.Each specialisation builds on this shared foundation with targeted courses to deepen expertise. Accounting and Auditing students take Seminar Auditing, while Accounting and Control students engage in Seminar Management Control, and Accounting and Finance students study Seminar Corporate Governance and select electives to tailor their learning. Seminar Data Analytics is included across all tracks, reflecting the importance of data-driven insights in modern accounting practice. The curriculum culminates in a Master’s Thesis in the chosen specialisation, allowing students to conduct independent research that integrates theoretical understanding with practical application. The combination of lectures, seminars, research training, and applied projects ensures that graduates develop analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, alongside professional competencies such as communication and ethical awareness.
