COURSE CURRICULUM

The Applied History master’s program for 2024–2025 is structured across four terms, blending academic coursework, practical training, and professional preparation. In Term 1, students begin with Digital Tools for the Future, which equips them with essential skills to work with digital sources and methods, alongside courses such as Histories in Motion: Migration, Identity, and Urban Life, and Historical Culture in a Globalising World, both of which encourage critical reflection on history in contemporary contexts. The term also includes the Master Thesis Market, where students orient themselves toward potential research topics and final projects.In Term 2, the focus shifts toward connecting historical perspectives with real-world applications. Courses like Heritage and Fashion and Reasoning from the Past: Applied History and Welfare Policies highlight how historical analysis can shape present-day debates. The Research Workshop, introduced here, supports students in refining their methods and developing their projects.Term 3 allows students to personalise their studies through electives or an internship, while continuing the Research Workshop. This period also marks the formal start of their Final Project, offering flexibility to combine academic research with practical outputs such as exhibition outlines, documentary scripts, or policy analyses.Finally, Term 4 is dedicated to deepening professional engagement through an extended internship and completing the Final Project. This term gives students the opportunity to apply historical insights in a real-world setting while demonstrating mastery of research and presentation skills.Overall, the curriculum balances methodological training, applied courses, and professional practice. With its mix of academic rigour and practical orientation, the program prepares graduates for careers in cultural institutions, policy-making, heritage management, or further academic research, while encouraging them to use history as a tool to address pressing contemporary challenges.
