COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master Law and Technology program is structured across five blocks, combining research, practical design projects, courses on ethics and regulation, and a master thesis. In Block 1, students begin with the Research Practicum (15 ECTS), exploring digital platforms as a nexus of legal, socioeconomic, and technical complexity. Simultaneously, they start the Law&Tech Masterpiece project (20 ECTS), designing and describing a Legal Tech tool for the legal profession, marking the first step in the design process.Block 2 focuses on ethics, technology, and data. The Ethics, Technology & the Legal Professional course (5 ECTS) addresses professional and technological ethics and explores complex, “wicked” problems. The Law & Data course (5 ECTS) examines data handling under current law, including data protection and rights to data. Students continue the Law&Tech Masterpiece project, reflecting on coursework and advancing their design process for the master project.In Block 3, the program examines governance, regulation, and fundamental rights. The Governance and Regulation of Digital Technologies course (5 ECTS) addresses why and how digital technologies, including AI and Legal Tech tools, should be regulated. The AI, Democracy and Fundamental Rights course (5 ECTS) explores the intersection of AI with human rights, covering civil, political, socio-economic, and emerging generations of rights, and considers AI’s impact on democratic institutions. During this block, students continue their Law&Tech Masterpiece, reflecting on theoretical aspects, and begin the legal essay trajectory.Block 4 allows students to choose an elective course (5 ECTS) from the faculty’s master’s offerings while continuing the Law&Tech Masterpiece project, integrating theoretical insights and finalizing the legal essay.Block 5 is dedicated to the master thesis and the completion of the Law&Tech Masterpiece project, in which students produce the final technical, ethical, and legal specifications of their Legal Tech tool. Across all blocks, the curriculum balances theoretical knowledge, ethical and legal considerations, and hands-on design experience, preparing graduates for careers at the intersection of law and technology.
