COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Bachelor in Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam provides a structured and comprehensive education in the field, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills and real-world applications. In the first year, students gain a broad overview of the foundational disciplines of psychology, exploring key theories and concepts related to human behaviour, cognition, and emotion. Practical training is integrated throughout, including courses such as Personal Differences, where students investigate individual personality traits, and Psychodiagnostics, where they learn to use and interpret personality questionnaires. Core courses in statistics, research methods, and academic and professional skills equip students with the tools to conduct experiments, analyse data, and engage in professional conversations, while the final quarter of the year emphasizes a critical understanding of psychology from historical and cross-cultural perspectives. Mathematics, particularly statistics, is central to building the analytical skills required for further study.In the second year, students deepen their knowledge in fundamental psychology and applied fields such as Educational Psychology and Work and Organisational Psychology. After the third quarter, students choose a specialisation track that aligns with their interests and future career goals. The third year offers opportunities to broaden academic horizons through a minor, which may be taken at Erasmus University or another Dutch university, or via an international exchange. During the second quarter, students take elective courses linked to different master’s tracks, such as Forensic and Legal Psychology or Mind in Society (Brain and Cognition), helping them refine their academic and career direction. The final half of the year focuses on courses within the chosen specialisation, culminating in a bachelor’s thesis where students independently conduct research to answer a psychological question scientifically. This combination of theoretical grounding, applied practice, specialisation, and research ensures that graduates are well prepared for advanced studies or professional roles in psychology and related fields.
