COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Bachelor Arts and Culture Studies (IBACS) offers a structured three-year program that combines theoretical study with practical experience in the cultural and creative industries. The first year provides all students with a solid foundation for studying the world of art, culture, and media. Students explore central theoretical concepts used in cultural scholarship and examine the historical, sociological, and economic aspects of art and culture, learning how these dimensions are interconnected. Courses introduce the dissemination of art and culture, cultural policy, and the organisation of cultural institutions. Alongside these subject-specific modules, students are trained in scientific research methods and academic writing. Core courses in the first year include History of Western Arts and Culture, Sociology of Arts and Culture, Economics, Cultural Policy, Arts, Culture and Media, and the Cultural and Creative Industries.In the second year, students begin to specialise by choosing a focus area: Culture and Economics, Culture and Society, or Culture and Media. Alongside electives and research-focused courses, students study topics such as cultural sociology, aesthetics, marketing arts and culture, statistical analysis, and the economics of arts and culture. An important component of the second year is the compulsory internship, which allows students to gain practical experience, apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, and build professional networks in the cultural sector.The third year provides opportunities for further personalisation. Students can either pursue a minor to broaden their academic perspective or spend up to two semesters studying abroad at a partner university. This flexibility allows students to expand their international outlook and academic profile. The final year also includes advanced courses in sociology, cultural industries, and future scenarios for the sector. The program concludes with the Bachelor Graduation Project, where students write a thesis on a topic of their choice, supported by staff supervision.
