COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Technical Medicine at TU Delft combines theory, practical applications, skills training, and clinical-technological internships, offering a comprehensive education at the intersection of medicine and technology. The theoretical components of the MSc program are taught in English, while skills training and clinical communication take place in Dutch, reflecting the multilingual clinical environment. The curriculum is structured to provide a balance between foundational knowledge, hands-on experience, and research competence.In the first year, students develop a deeper theoretical understanding of their chosen track while training in reserved procedures and clinical skills within simulated environments. The curriculum also covers patient safety, efficiency, quality management, and the implementation of complex medical technologies. Both tracks share certain skills modules and a limited number of core subjects, ensuring a common foundation while allowing for specialization. This combination of theoretical study and simulated practice prepares students to apply advanced medical technologies effectively and safely in real clinical settings.The second year focuses on clinical-technological internships, with students completing four ten-week internships. One of these internships involves assignments across multiple departments, providing exposure to complex, multidisciplinary medical environments. These internships enable students to apply their knowledge in practical settings, gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge medical technologies, and develop their problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.The final stage of the program is the graduation project, an extensive clinical-technological internship combined with research. During this phase, students conduct a literature review, carry out research forming the basis of their thesis, and further enhance their clinical skills in a real medical setting. This integration of research and practice ensures that graduates are well-prepared to function as technical medical specialists, capable of innovating and implementing advanced medical technologies while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
