COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Materials Science and Engineering at TU Delft offers students the opportunity to specialise in areas that align with their individual interests and career goals. After completing the core courses, students can choose from three predefined specialisations, each focusing on a specific domain within materials science, providing advanced knowledge and in-depth expertise. Alternatively, students can tailor their own curriculum by selecting electives across disciplines, creating a personalised learning path that matches their aspirations and encourages exploration of interdisciplinary topics.The program also emphasises practical, research-based experience. Students have the option to undertake an External Research Project in collaboration with industry partners or research institutions. This hands-on project allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges, gain valuable professional experience, and establish connections within the materials science community.As part of their progression, students conduct a literature study and engage in independent scientific investigation, forming the foundation of their Master’s thesis. The thesis project enables students to carry out original research under the supervision of faculty members, addressing complex materials-related problems and contributing to advances in the field. Through this process, students develop strong skills in critical thinking, research methodologies, problem-solving, and scientific communication.Graduates of the Materials Science and Engineering program leave equipped to design, analyse, and optimise materials for industrial, technological, and research applications.
