COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Life Science & Technology at TU Delft offers students the opportunity to specialise in one of three distinct areas, each combining theoretical knowledge with practical research applications. The Biocatalysis specialisation focuses on enzymology, bio-organic and bio-inorganic chemistry, and protein analysis, equipping students with the skills to understand enzyme structure and function, either individually or in multi-enzyme systems. This specialisation integrates both theoretical concepts and laboratory techniques, preparing graduates to apply biocatalysis principles in research and industrial applications.The Biochemical Engineering specialisation centres on developing new processes that utilise cells or cell components, such as enzymes, derived from sustainable feedstocks. Students learn to design, analyse, and optimise these processes, bridging molecular biology with engineering principles to create environmentally responsible and economically viable solutions in biotechnology.The Cell Factory specialisation emphasizes the design, optimisation, and understanding of living cells as sustainable production systems. Students gain expertise in using microbial and other cell types to produce valuable compounds, ranging from food ingredients to biofuels, with a focus on efficiency, sustainability, and scalability. Courses combine fundamental biological knowledge with practical approaches, enabling students to engineer cell systems for industrial and research applications.Across all specialisations, the program includes a strong research component, allowing students to engage in a Master’s project that applies their acquired knowledge to real-world challenges. Graduates leave the program with a combination of scientific understanding, practical laboratory skills, and process engineering expertise, making them highly competent for careers in biotechnological, pharmaceutical, food, and healthcare industries, as well as for further academic research.
