COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geomatics for the Built Environment Master’s program at TU Delft trains students to analyse, model, and visualise geographic data using advanced techniques. Students develop strong technical expertise, including proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and SQL, which are essential for solving complex geomatics-related challenges. Remote sensing techniques enable students to measure and observe aspects of the environment that are not visible to the naked eye, providing data that can be transformed into actionable insights through analysis and modelling.Students learn to apply their skills in 3D modelling, geographic information systems (GIS), mapping, simulation, serious gaming, and data visualisation across a wide range of applications. These include urban planning, disaster management, geodesign, location-based services, and land administration. By analysing patterns, tracking changes over time, and predicting future states, graduates are able to make informed, evidence-based decisions that address real-world challenges in the built environment.The program also emphasises the governance and responsible use of geographic data. Students learn to implement principles of open science by utilising open data, open-source software, and openly publishing their research results in the university repository. This approach ensures transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility, preparing graduates to contribute to a more collaborative and data-driven professional environment.By combining technical, analytical, and governance skills, the Geomatics for the Built Environment program equips students to transform geographic data into knowledge that supports sustainable, innovative, and evidence-based solutions. Graduates leave the program ready to pursue careers in government agencies, consultancy firms, research institutes, and private companies, where they can apply their expertise to urban development, environmental management, and strategic planning projects.
