COURSE CURRICULUM

The Earth, Climate and Technology (ECT) MSc program at TU Delft equips students with the engineering skills needed to contribute to a sustainable future. Graduates learn to responsibly manage the Earth’s finite natural resources, providing clean energy and critical raw materials required for solar panels, electronic devices, and wind turbines. The program emphasizes the development and application of technical tools to understand, monitor, model, and predict physical processes in the Earth and climate system. Students gain expertise in observing and modeling phenomena related to climate change, natural hazards, resource extraction, and subsurface storage. The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience through fieldwork, laboratory exercises, and excursions, both in the Netherlands and internationally. ECT also fosters an international study environment, where students collaborate across diverse teams, learning to apply engineering solutions to complex global challenges. By the end of the program, graduates are prepared to integrate scientific understanding and technical innovation to develop sustainable solutions that balance societal needs, environmental protection, and technological feasibility. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that students are not only proficient in Earth system science but also capable of translating their knowledge into actionable strategies for energy transition, resource management, and climate adaptation, preparing them for impactful careers in research, industry, government, and international organizations.
