COURSE CURRICULUM

The Design for Interaction (DfI) Master’s program at TU Delft equips students with a comprehensive understanding of human experience from multiple perspectives, including physiological, psychological, cultural, sociological, and philosophical dimensions. Students explore human values, aspirations, and needs, gaining insights that form the foundation for responsible and meaningful design. The program emphasises the development of practical making and interaction design skills, enabling students to work with a variety of materials, technologies, and processes to bring their ideas to life.A multidisciplinary approach allows students to examine human-technology relationships through the lens of social sciences and humanities, fostering responsible design practices. Academic research is a core component of the program, providing students with the ability to justify design decisions and actions based on rigorous evidence and critical reasoning. Collaboration with diverse stakeholders across different use cases, contexts, and scales enhances students’ ability to create value in practical and societal applications.The curriculum nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills, including visual and other modes of expression, allowing students to convey complex ideas effectively. Students also develop a future-oriented mindset, addressing systemic complexities and designing for justice and sustainability. The program emphasizes ethical and responsible practice, preparing graduates to act as agents of change who contribute positively to society through innovative and conscientious design solutions.By combining human-centred research, practical design skills, and multidisciplinary collaboration, the DfI program prepares graduates for careers as interaction designers, user experience specialists, service designers, or innovation strategists. Graduates are capable of designing systems, products, and services that are not only functional and engaging but also socially responsible, sustainable, and responsive to the evolving needs of people, organisations, and communities.
