COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Science and AI Technology (DSAIT) master’s program builds upon a shared core, after which students tailor their studies to their own interests and career goals. At the heart of the program is a strong foundation in both artificial intelligence and data science, ensuring that students gain knowledge of algorithms, machine learning, data management, and responsible AI practices. In addition, the program allows students to choose two specialised DSAIT themes to establish in-depth expertise, alongside a research course that develops their ability to conduct high-level academic or applied research. Students also have the flexibility to either deepen their expertise in specific areas or broaden their skill set through a range of elective courses. This structure ensures a balance between guided learning and personal choice, helping students to build a profile that best suits their ambitions.In the first year, students take a series of core courses that include data management and engineering, software engineering and testing for AI systems, responsible data science and AI engineering, machine and deep learning, and probabilistic AI and reasoning. Alongside these courses, they begin to explore their chosen themes, which span multiple quarters to provide both depth and continuity. This integrated approach allows students to combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice in designing and evaluating intelligent systems.In the second year, students continue to shape their program through electives that enable either specialisation or interdisciplinary exploration. The year is largely dedicated to the master’s thesis, a substantial research project carried out under the guidance of a faculty advisor. This project not only allows students to demonstrate their ability to conduct original research in data science and AI but also prepares them for careers in academia, industry, or entrepreneurship. By the end of the program, graduates are well equipped to design, analyse, and implement AI-driven solutions that are technically sound, socially responsible, and aligned with the needs of a rapidly evolving world.
