COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Computer Science at TU Delft is structured to build on a common core while allowing students to specialise in areas of interest and develop advanced research skills. The program begins with a core curriculum of five foundational courses that provide essential knowledge in computer science, including software architecture and responsible computing practices. This core ensures that all students have a solid understanding of the principles and methodologies central to the discipline.To gain in-depth expertise, students choose two specialised Computer Science themes, each consisting of three courses focused on a specific domain. Alongside these themes, students take a research course to develop their ability to conduct rigorous scientific investigations. Electives allow students to either broaden their knowledge across different areas of computer science or deepen their expertise in their chosen themes, offering flexibility to tailor the program to individual interests and career goals.The first year is structured across four quarters, integrating core courses, theme-specific courses, and the research component. This combination ensures that students simultaneously acquire foundational knowledge, domain-specific skills, and research competence. In the second year, students focus on broadening or deepening electives before undertaking their Master’s thesis project. Under the guidance of a thesis supervisor, students conduct original research, applying their accumulated knowledge and analytical skills to address complex problems in computer science.Graduates of the program are well-prepared for careers in academia, research institutions, or industry, where they can design and develop advanced software systems, conduct data-driven research, or contribute to innovative computing solutions. The curriculum emphasizes both technical proficiency and responsible computing practices, equipping students to tackle contemporary challenges in software development, artificial intelligence, data science, and related fields.
