COURSE CURRICULUM
The TU Delft Master’s program in BioMedical Engineering (BME) is a multidisciplinary program that integrates biological and medical knowledge with advanced technical training in fields such as electrical, mechanical, materials, and physics engineering. The program equips students with the skills to develop conceptual models from a technical perspective and encourages close collaboration with physicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals. This collaboration often occurs on-site at the program’s affiliated academic medical centers, providing a practical, clinically informed learning experience.Students benefit from courses offered by three TU Delft faculties: Applied Sciences; Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science; and Mechanical Engineering. The program also draws on clinical expertise from two prominent medical centers, Leiden University Medical Center and Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, ensuring that the curriculum is closely aligned with current medical and technological practices. This combination of engineering and clinical input allows students to work on real-world challenges in healthcare, translating scientific and technical knowledge into practical solutions.TU Delft offers two related educational pathways in the field. The Master’s program in BioMedical Engineering focuses on clinically oriented courses aimed at design and research within the medical industry, emphasizing the development of innovative devices and systems that address healthcare challenges. The BioMechanical Design track, part of the Mechanical Engineering master’s, emphasizes biomechanics, control engineering, and the design of mechanisms for medical and industrial applications.Graduates of the BioMedical Engineering program are awarded an MSc degree in BioMedical Engineering, with their chosen specialisation noted on the certificate. Those completing the BioMechanical Design track receive an MSc in Mechanical Engineering with the track specified. Overall, the program provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education that blends theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and practical clinical exposure, preparing graduates to contribute effectively to the development, design, and implementation of advanced medical technologies in research, industry, and healthcare settings.
