COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Product Design offers a structured three-year curriculum that develops students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in furniture and industrial product design. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by studying graphic design, form and planning analysis, design methodology, computer-aided design (CAD), technical drawing, design history and culture, and design semiotics. They also improve communication skills through foreign language studies and independent learning activities. This year focuses on understanding design principles, visual communication, and technical representation. In the second year, students gain deeper knowledge of product development and materials. They study sociology and anthropology of design to understand user needs and cultural influences, along with materials science and technology. The curriculum includes Product Design 1, CAD/CAM modelling, techniques of design communication, and modelling, helping students transform concepts into practical and innovative products. In the third year, students refine their professional expertise through advanced product design, prototype design patterns, prototyping, rendering, and product communication. They also study organization skills and enterprise performance management to understand business operations and strategic planning. The final year includes an internship and dissertation, allowing students to gain industry experience and conduct academic research. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in industrial design, furniture design, prototyping, and product development within creative and commercial industries.
