COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Regenerative Medicine at University of Galway is structured over one year and carries a total of 60 ECTS, combining core modules, practical training, and research-focused learning. In the first semester, students develop a solid foundation in the principles and applications of regenerative medicine. They study Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine, exploring the biology of stem cells, their sources, differentiation, and their therapeutic potential. The Gene Therapy module provides insights into gene editing technologies, delivery systems, and how genetic interventions can be applied to repair or regenerate tissues. Tissue Engineering introduces students to the design of scaffolds, biomaterials, and techniques used to create functional tissue constructs. Advanced Research Techniques equips students with practical and analytical skills needed to conduct rigorous laboratory and translational research. Optional modules in the first semester, such as Introduction to Business, Biostatistics, Human Body Function, and Harnessing the Basic Biology of Cancer, allow students to broaden their understanding of related scientific and professional contexts, while courses in Scientific Writing and Green Lab Practices enhance critical skills for effective research communication and sustainable laboratory practice. In the second semester, students progress to more advanced and integrative topics. Graduate Course in Basic and Advanced Immunology provides essential knowledge of immune mechanisms relevant to regenerative therapies. Advanced Tissue Engineering builds on prior knowledge to examine complex tissue fabrication, biomaterial interactions, and preclinical evaluation. Translational Medicine focuses on the pathway from experimental research to clinical application, emphasizing safety, efficacy, and regulatory considerations. Optional modules in this semester, such as Independent Study or Introduction to Bioinformatics, provide opportunities for self-directed exploration or computational analysis to complement experimental approaches.
