COURSE CURRICULUM

Year 1 of the MSc/PGDip in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment consists of 90 credits and combines required and optional modules to provide a comprehensive foundation in workplace safety, health, and environmental management. Core modules include Research Methods (OccH), which equips students with essential research skills for occupational health and safety contexts, and Health & Safety and Environmental Law, which examines the legislative frameworks governing workplace and environmental protection. Occupational Health and Wellbeing introduces principles and practices to support employee health and resilience, while Exposure Science focuses on identifying and assessing chemical, physical, and biological hazards in occupational settings. Safety and Risk Management develops the skills needed to evaluate risks and implement effective safety strategies in diverse workplaces. Students also complete a Research Thesis in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical research projects. Optional modules offer further specialisation, including Ergonomics, Physical Ergonomics, Environmental Engineering, Research Methods Qualitative (OccH), and Information Systems Ergonomics, enabling students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. This combination of core and elective modules ensures that graduates are prepared to assess and manage workplace risks, promote employee wellbeing, and integrate environmental sustainability into organisational practices.
