COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Neuropharmacology at the University of Galway is a one-year, full-time program comprising 90 ECTS. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in pharmacology, neurophysiology, and experimental research, preparing students for careers in neuropharmacological research. Core modules cover fundamental and applied concepts in pharmacology, central neurotransmission, experimental methods, and current topics in neuropharmacology. Students also study neuropharmacology and therapeutics, developing the skills to evaluate drug effects on the central nervous system and explore novel treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders.The program emphasizes hands-on research experience through modules in experimental neuropharmacology, allowing students to design and conduct experiments that integrate theory and practice. Optional thesis modules are available in pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, or psychiatry, giving students the opportunity to pursue in-depth research aligned with their interests. Additional optional modules, such as introduction to toxicology, molecular and cellular biology, and screening molecular libraries, provide further breadth and technical expertise.Through this combination of core and optional modules, the MSc equips graduates with a comprehensive understanding of brain function, drug mechanisms, and experimental techniques.
