COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine requires completion of 90 ECTS credits in Year 1. The program consists entirely of required modules, ensuring that all students develop a comprehensive and integrated understanding of interventional cardiovascular science, clinical practice, research methodology, and medical technology innovation.The core clinical foundation begins with Fundamentals of Vascular Intervention (MD1530), which introduces principles of peripheral vascular disease, endovascular techniques, and catheter-based therapeutic strategies. Fundamentals of Coronary Artery Disease (Diagnostics) (MD1532) focuses on the pathophysiology of coronary disease and the use of diagnostic tools such as invasive and non-invasive imaging modalities. This is complemented by Fundamentals of Coronary Artery Disease (Treatments) (MD1531), which examines interventional procedures, stent technologies, pharmacological therapies, and patient management strategies. Fundamentals of Structural Heart Disease (MD1537) expands expertise into structural interventions, including transcatheter therapies and evolving minimally invasive procedures.The program also emphasises research and innovation. Research Methods for Evidence Based Practice (MD1538) develops skills in critical appraisal, study design, biostatistics, and interpretation of clinical data, ensuring graduates can evaluate and apply scientific evidence effectively. Medical Device Innovation (MD1535) explores the design, development, regulation, and clinical translation of cardiovascular devices, bridging medicine with biomedical engineering and industry practice. The Research Thesis (MD1533) represents a substantial independent research project, allowing students to investigate a specialised topic in interventional cardiovascular medicine and demonstrate advanced analytical and scholarly competence.Together, these modules provide rigorous academic training, practical clinical insight, and research expertise, preparing graduates for advanced clinical roles, research careers, or leadership positions within the cardiovascular medical device and healthcare sectors.
