COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Information Systems Management at the University of Galway requires students to complete 90 credits in Year 1, in line with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The curriculum for the current academic year is structured across two semesters, though specific modules and details may be subject to change. Students must complete a combination of required and optional modules to achieve the total credit requirement. A module is an examinable component of the course, identified by a unique code, and involves lectures, tutorials, and assessed assignments. Required modules are compulsory for all students enrolled in the program, while optional modules provide opportunities for specialization.In Semester 1, students undertake the Major Information Systems Management Project, a substantial 30-credit component that integrates learning through applied research or practical project work. Additional required modules include Information Systems Management, Database Systems, Systems Development and Project Management, Business Applications Programming, Interactive Systems Design, and Business Modelling and Analytics. These modules build strong foundations in systems design, programming, data management, analytics, and project leadership.In Semester 2, required modules include Cloud Computing, Web Design and Development, Business Data Communications, Enterprise Systems, and Applied Systems Analysis, focusing on modern IT infrastructure, digital platforms, and organizational systems integration. Students may also choose from optional modules such as Advanced Programming for Business Analytics or Philosophy of Information and Information Ethics, allowing them to deepen technical expertise or explore ethical and conceptual dimensions of information systems. Together, the curriculum develops technical proficiency, analytical capability, and strategic insight essential for managing complex digital environments.
