COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Health Economics curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in economic analysis and its application to healthcare systems. In the first semester, students focus on essential quantitative and research skills, including Econometrics, Economics of Health and Health Care, Economic Evaluation in Health Care, and Research Methods for Health Economics and Policy Analysis. These core modules equip students with the tools to analyse healthcare data, assess policy interventions, and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of medical technologies and services. Optional modules such as Applied Health Economics Placement and Dissertation provide practical experience and opportunities to conduct independent research, helping students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. The second semester builds on this foundation by introducing modules that deepen understanding of healthcare systems and decision-making processes, including Health Systems & Policy Analysis and Applied Health Technology Assessment and Decision Modelling. Additional optional modules, such as Health Technology Assessment and Market Access, Applied Behavioural Economics and Finance, Cost Benefit Analysis & Evaluation, and Systematic Review Methods, allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. This combination of required and optional modules ensures that graduates are proficient in both the theoretical and practical aspects of health economics, preparing them for careers in policy-making, consultancy, public health, and research. By the end of the program, students are able to critically evaluate health policies, model economic outcomes, and contribute evidence-based recommendations for healthcare improvement. The curriculum emphasizes real-world applicability, integrating analytical methods with practical experience to produce graduates capable of influencing healthcare delivery, policy design, and resource allocation across diverse contexts globally.
