COURSE CURRICULUM
The MSc Global Environmental Economics is structured around a 90-credit, one-year curriculum that combines core and optional modules to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in environmental and economic analysis. In the first semester, students focus on foundational and analytical subjects, starting with Microeconomic Theory, which equips them with essential economic reasoning and modelling skills, and Econometrics, which develops their ability to analyse data quantitatively. Students also study Climate Change Economics to understand the economic impacts and policy responses to climate challenges, alongside Natural Resource Governance & Sustainability, which explores sustainable management of environmental resources. Optional modules in the first semester, such as the Applied Environmental Economics Placement and Dissertation, allow students to gain hands-on experience in research or industry projects, connecting classroom learning with real-world applications. In the second semester, the program broadens students’ perspectives with modules such as Global Issues in Agricultural, Marine and Renewable Energy Economics, Environmental Economic Modelling, and Cost Benefit Analysis & Evaluation, enabling students to assess the efficiency and impacts of environmental policies and projects. Optional modules, including Green and Sustainable Finance, Renewable Energy Economics and Policy, European Energy Policy, Applied Econometrics, Derivatives and Risk Management, and Applied Behavioural Economics and Finance, allow students to tailor their studies according to their career goals or research interests, integrating finance, policy, and behavioural perspectives into environmental economics. Across the program, students engage in analytical exercises, policy evaluation, and applied research, developing the skills to conduct environmental assessments, model economic outcomes, and design evidence-based solutions. By the end of the year, graduates possess a combination of rigorous economic expertise, applied analytical skills, and knowledge of global environmental issues, preparing them for careers in government, consultancy, international development, research, or further academic study. The curriculum emphasizes both critical thinking and practical competence, ensuring that students are well-equipped to influence environmental policy, guide sustainable development initiatives, and contribute to solving complex environmental challenges at a global level.
