COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cybersecurity with AI and Data Analytics at the University of Galway is a full-time, 12-month program designed to equip students with cutting-edge technical skills and applied knowledge in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. The curriculum is structured around a set of core modules that provide a strong foundation in both theory and practice. Students begin with an introduction to cybersecurity, covering essential concepts and techniques, alongside modules on the societal impact of AI and cybersecurity, which address the ethical, legal, and social implications of emerging technologies. Network security and cryptography are taught to ensure learners understand how to secure systems and protect sensitive data, while principles of machine learning and deep learning equip students with the tools to analyse complex data and apply predictive models. Programming and tools for AI offer practical experience in implementing algorithms, and secure DevOps introduces students to integrating security into software development and operational workflows. Applied modules, including an adaptive cybersecurity project and case studies in cybersecurity analytics, enable students to translate theory into real-world solutions. Data visualisation skills are developed to communicate insights effectively, and malware and intrusion detection modules focus on identifying and mitigating security threats. In addition to core modules, students may choose from a range of optional modules, such as optimisation, systems modelling and simulation, large-scale data analytics, natural language processing, multi-agent systems, web and network science, and knowledge representation, allowing them to tailor the program to their interests and career goals. Throughout the year, teaching combines lectures, tutorials, and hands-on project work, providing a balance of conceptual understanding, technical proficiency, and problem-solving abilities. Graduates leave the program with the expertise required to work in the rapidly evolving fields of cybersecurity, AI, and data analytics, prepared to develop innovative solutions, lead security initiatives, and contribute to industry or research settings in a global context. This integrated approach ensures that students are both technically competent and strategically aware, ready to address the complex challenges of AI-driven cybersecurity.
