COURSE CURRICULUM
The curriculum information relates to the current academic year and module offerings may be subject to change. In Year 1, students complete a total of 90 credits through a combination of required and optional modules. The program places strong emphasis on research competence, social justice, and practical engagement within child, youth, and community contexts.All students undertake a comprehensive set of required modules that form the foundation of the degree. These include Research Methods and Methodology, Research Workshops I and II, and a Research Paper, which collectively develop advanced skills in research design, data collection, analysis, and academic writing. Core thematic modules such as Human Rights and Social Justice, program Planning and Evaluation, Families, Children and Young People: Sociological Perspectives and Policy Issues, and Community Development and Families provide critical insight into social policy, inequality, advocacy, and evidence-informed intervention design. Together, these modules equip students with the analytical and practical tools necessary to design, implement, and evaluate programs that support children, young people, and communities.Students may also select from a range of optional modules to tailor their learning to specific interests or career goals. Options include Professional Experience, Field-Based Learning, Working with Specific Populations, Gender, Sexuality and Global Health, Social and Political Context of Activism and Advocacy, and Applied Gender Analyses. These electives provide opportunities for experiential learning, specialised knowledge development, and engagement with contemporary social issues at local and global levels.Overall, the curriculum integrates rigorous research training with social theory, policy analysis, and applied practice, preparing graduates to contribute effectively to program development, evaluation, advocacy, and leadership within community, voluntary, and statutory sectors.
