COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cellular Manufacturing and Therapy is designed for graduates from biology, medical, or engineering backgrounds who are passionate about advancing and translating cellular therapies into real-world clinical solutions. It is particularly suited to individuals who are motivated to improve patient care globally through innovative, next-generation treatments capable of transforming outcomes across a wide range of diseases. The program welcomes both recent graduates seeking to enter the rapidly expanding cellular manufacturing sector and professionals aiming to upskill in this specialised area. Students are expected to bring curiosity, commitment, and enthusiasm for developing both technical and transferable competencies. Training spans practical laboratory expertise—such as mammalian cell culture, fluorescent and phase microscopy, and bioreactor operation—alongside analytical thinking, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. With instruction delivered by experienced industry professionals, including leaders involved in clinical trials and advanced manufacturing, students gain comprehensive insight into identifying, producing, quality assuring, and applying cell therapies from concept to clinical implementation. This full-time, 12-month program runs from September to August and is structured across three semesters. The first two semesters are delivered in a taught format through lectures, tutorials, and laboratory practical sessions, during which students complete 80 ECTS of compulsory modules and 10 ECTS of optional modules. Core modules in Semester One include Cellular Manufacturing I and Cellular Immunotherapy. Semester Two builds on this foundation with Cellular Manufacturing II, Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Therapy, and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Therapy. Optional modules may include Harnessing the Basic Biology of Cancer for Development of Novel Therapeutics, Gene Therapy, and Informatics I: Retrieval and Appraisal of Scientific Literature. The third semester focuses on an Individual Research Project and Dissertation, undertaken in a professional or research setting, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts and further develop their expertise within this dynamic and evolving field.
