To successfully complete Year 1 of the Biomedical Genomics MSc, students must accumulate 90 ECTS credits through a combination of required and optional modules. Credits represent the academic workload associated with each module, and students must select the appropriate mix of modules to meet the total credit requirement. A module is an examinable unit of study involving lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, and assessments, and each module is identified by a unique code. Most courses operate over two semesters within the academic year.The program includes several required modules that form the academic core of the degree. In Semester 1, students complete Genomics Techniques 1, Medical Genomics I, and the substantial Genomics Project worth 30 credits, which provides in-depth research and applied genomic analysis experience. In Semester 2, required modules include Genomics Research Methods, Genomics at Scale, Pathogen Genomic Epidemiology and Surveillance, and Medical Genomics II. These core components ensure students develop strong laboratory, computational, analytical, and research competencies in modern genomics.Alongside the required modules, students can tailor their learning through a broad range of optional subjects across both semesters. Semester 1 options include Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology, Introduction to Programming, Statistics for Health Data Science, Statistical Computing for Biomedical Data, Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Genomics, Genomics Data Analysis I, Genomics Professional Experience, Statistics for Data Science, and Introduction to Bayesian Modelling. In Semester 2, optional modules include Networks, Data Visualisation, Web and Network Science, Mathematical Molecular Biology II, Introduction to Bioinformatics, Genomics Data Analysis II, Medical Genomics II, and Graduate Course in Basic and Advanced Immunology.
