COURSE CURRICULUM

The curriculum for the Master of Science in Nursing (Advanced Practice Nursing) is structured over two years and is designed to develop the advanced clinical expertise, research capability, leadership skills, and professional competencies required for autonomous nursing practice. In Year 1, students complete 40 credits of core modules that establish the foundation for advanced practice. These include Decision Making and Advanced Practice Professional Roles, which strengthens clinical judgment and role development; Advanced Research Methods, which equips students with the skills to critically appraise and apply evidence in practice; Leadership, Quality Improvement and Governance, which focuses on enhancing service delivery and organisational effectiveness; and Advanced Health Assessment, which develops comprehensive patient assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills essential for managing complex clinical cases.In Year 2, students complete 70 credits that deepen their specialist knowledge and clinical proficiency. Modules include Professional, Ethical and Legal Issues of Nurse and Midwife Prescribing, ensuring safe and accountable prescribing practice, and Pharmacology, Health and Medicinal Prescribing, which provides an in-depth understanding of medications and therapeutic decision-making. A significant component of the second year is the Research Dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent scholarly research that contributes to evidence-based practice. The Clinical Practicum offers supervised, practice-based experience where students apply advanced competencies in real healthcare settings, while the Competency Assessment ensures that all required professional standards for advanced practice are met.
