COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s in Adolescent Health is designed for individuals passionate about improving the health and well-being of adolescents. It is suitable for both recent graduates and mature students seeking a specialised Level 9 qualification, offering practical knowledge and skills that can be immediately applied in professional settings. The program provides flexible learning options, allowing students to study full-time, part-time, or fully remotely through online attendance, with classes scheduled three evenings per week and on three Saturdays during each 12-week teaching semester, enabling a hybrid approach that accommodates diverse personal and professional schedules. This interdisciplinary program features a public health-informed curriculum that focuses on understanding the determinants of adolescent health, addressing the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of adolescents, and developing interventions, programs, and policies aimed at promoting their well-being. Students acquire critical thinking, analytical, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills, alongside foundational public health knowledge, preparing them to make meaningful contributions locally, nationally, and globally. Core modules cover key areas including Foundations of Public Health in the Context of Adolescence, Adolescent Health and Development, Research Methods, Determinants of Adolescent Health, Chronic Health Conditions in Adolescence, Designing, Implementing, and Evaluating Adolescent Health programs, Communication for Adolescent Health, Quality Improvement, and Leadership Development. A central component of the program is the Integrative Learning Experience (ILE), allowing students to pursue a community-led project, a narrative review, or independent research culminating in a thesis tailored to their personal interests and career goals. Through this hands-on experience, students learn to define adolescent health and development needs, design strategies to address them, and evaluate the effectiveness of health interventions. Graduates leave the program equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies necessary to work effectively with adolescents, advocate for their health, and contribute to initiatives that promote adolescent well-being in diverse contexts, making a tangible impact in communities around the world.
