COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Diabetes Nursing is a two-year, part-time program specifically designed for registered nurses working in approved healthcare settings in Ireland. It focuses on developing advanced clinical skills, evidence-based practice, and specialist knowledge required to manage diabetes effectively. In the first year, students complete 60 credits through core modules that cover diabetes pathophysiology and management, clinical competence, safe practice through clinical governance, recognizing and responding to patient deterioration, and the management of diabetic foot disease. The program also equips students with advanced research skills and training in service improvement, ensuring that graduates can implement evidence-based interventions and contribute to the enhancement of diabetes care within healthcare systems. In the second year, students complete a 30-credit research dissertation, providing the opportunity to conduct an in-depth investigation into a relevant clinical or healthcare topic, further developing analytical, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on combining theoretical learning with practical, workplace-based application, allowing nurses to immediately integrate new knowledge and skills into patient care.
