COURSE CURRICULUM

The ME in Biomedical Engineering curriculum is structured over one academic year and requires students to complete 60 ECTS credits through a combination of required and optional modules. Curriculum information relates to the current academic year and module offerings may be subject to change. Students must complete all required modules and select an appropriate number of optional modules to reach the total credit requirement. Each module represents an examinable component of the program and involves lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, and project-based assignments.Central to the program are two required modules in Semester 1: the Biomedical Engineering Individual Masters Project (10 credits) and the Biomedical Engineering BioInnovate Project (15 credits). These substantial project components provide hands-on experience in research, innovation, and applied problem-solving, enabling students to work on real-world biomedical challenges and develop practical engineering solutions.Students complement these core projects with a wide range of optional modules that allow them to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. In Semester 1, options include Advanced Computational Biomechanics, Bioinstrumentation Design, Finite Element Methods in Engineering II, Mechanobiology, Advanced Biomedical Thermodynamics, Machine Learning, UX Design for Medical Devices, Safety Engineering, Lean Systems, Partial Differential Equations, and Fundamentals of Python Programming. In Semester 2, students may choose from modules such as Advanced Mechanics of Materials, Advanced Finite Element Methods, Advanced Manufacturing, Advanced Tissue Engineering, Stem Cells and Gene Therapy II, and Translational Medicine. This flexible structure integrates advanced engineering theory, computational methods, medical sciences, and innovation-focused practice. By combining substantial project work with specialised technical modules, the curriculum equips graduates with strong analytical, design, and research capabilities, preparing them to contribute effectively to medical technology development and healthcare innovation.
