COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Writing curriculum is structured to provide students with both core guidance and the flexibility to pursue their creative interests across a variety of genres. In Year 1, students complete the required modules Final Project: Portfolio and Writer's Seminar, which form the foundation of the program by developing both practical skills and critical engagement with writing. The optional modules allow students to specialise and experiment with different forms, including Writing Workshops in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry, enabling focused development of technique and style. Additional options such as Books Journalism, Travel Literature, and Literature of North America provide broader literary and cultural context, encouraging students to situate their own writing within wider traditions and contemporary discourse. Through these modules, students build a diverse portfolio, gain experience in professional and creative practices, and develop the analytical and reflective skills necessary for a career in writing, publishing, or related creative industries. The combination of core and elective modules ensures a balance between structured mentorship and individual exploration, preparing graduates to engage confidently with both creative production and critical literary analysis.
