COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA/Postgraduate Diploma in Health Promotion is structured to provide a comprehensive and practical learning experience, combining core knowledge with optional specialised modules. In Year 1, students earn 90 credits, with required modules including the Dissertation (30 credits), Research Methods (10 credits), Foundations of Health Promotion (10 credits), Health Promotion Practice (10 credits), and Determinants of Health (10 credits). These core modules equip students with the theoretical understanding, research skills, and practical tools needed to design, implement, and evaluate health promotion initiatives across diverse settings. Complementing these are optional modules that allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests and career goals. Options in Semester 1 include Knowledge Translation in Health and Social Care Research (5 credits), while Semester 2 offers a variety of modules such as Re-Orienting Health Services (5 credits), Evaluation of Health Promotion programs (5 credits), Promoting Healthy Behaviour (5 credits), Supportive Environments for Health (5 credits), The European Dimension in Health Promotion (5 credits), Workplace Wellness (10 credits), Cardiovascular Health and Diabetes Prevention (10 credits), Mental Health Promotion (10 credits), and Promoting Mental Health and Social Wellbeing (5 credits). This curriculum integrates research-led teaching with applied learning, including program evaluation, health behaviour interventions, and workplace and community health promotion. By combining core and optional modules, students gain the flexibility to focus on areas relevant to their professional ambitions, whether in public health agencies, non-governmental organisations, educational institutions, or private sector roles. The program prepares graduates to lead initiatives, influence policy, and improve health outcomes at local, national, and international levels. Emphasis on evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and applied skills ensures that students can translate academic knowledge into real-world impact, making them highly employable in the rapidly evolving field of health promotion.
