COURSE CURRICULUM
The MA in Gender, Globalisation and Rights is structured as a one-year, 90-credit program that combines core modules, research training, and optional subjects to provide both depth and flexibility. The curriculum is delivered across two semesters, with students engaging in a mix of lectures, workshops, applied learning, and independent research. In Semester 1, students complete foundational and research-focused modules, including Gender, Women and Human Rights, Feminist and Gender Theorising I, Gender Perspectives on Globalisation, Research Methods & Methodology, Research Workshops I, and the Research Paper, which together provide the theoretical and methodological grounding for advanced study. Semester 2 builds on this foundation through Research Workshops II, Feminist and Gender Theorising II, and a range of optional modules that allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Optional modules include Women, Conflict and Human Security; Applied Gender Analyses; Gender, Sexuality and Global Health; Development and Human Rights; Field-Based Learning; Social and Political Context of Activism and Advocacy; and Critical Reflective Practice. Students may also undertake Professional Experience to gain practical, real-world insights into gender-focused work in local or international contexts. This combination of core and elective modules ensures that graduates acquire strong analytical, research, and applied skills, enabling them to address complex global challenges related to gender, human rights, and social justice. Through coursework, independent research, and experiential learning, students develop the capacity to critically evaluate policy and practice, design interventions, and contribute meaningfully to scholarship, advocacy, or professional practice. The program equips graduates for careers in international organisations, development agencies, non-governmental organisations, public policy, social research, and education, as well as providing a solid foundation for further academic study. By integrating theory, practice, and research, the MA prepares students to engage thoughtfully and effectively with the global and local dimensions of gender and human rights issues.
