COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Film Studies: Theory and Practice is structured around 90 ECTS credits in Year 1, blending core academic modules with a wide selection of practical and elective options. Core modules include FM6123: American Cinema: History, Aesthetics, Ideology (10 Credits) and the Minor Dissertation (FM514, 30 Credits), which provide a strong foundation in film history, theory, and research skills. Students can complement this with optional modules tailored to their interests, such as Ireland on Screen, Screen Writing Fundamentals, Short Filmmaking for Advocates, Film, Politics, and Colonialism, and Global Cinemas: Expanding Film, each worth 10 Credits. Practical modules like Ensemble Acting and Devising (DT6120) and Applied Theatre (DT6109) allow students to develop hands-on experience in performance and production. Other options include Sport and Film, Film Exhibition, Administration and Education, and Screenplay Development, giving students the flexibility to shape their degree according to their career goals.
